Our Company

OUR STORY OUR NAME

Our story began in 2000, when we were retained by several large public agencies and a Fortune 500 company to provide them with Java development expertise and Unix engineering support. We soon became a significant partner to Sun Microsystems in the public sector. Our business then expanded into higher education and other middle- and large-sized businesses. We have always worked at the enterprise level.

In 2010 we worked closely with several clients to develop software products which are now marketed to architects, engineers, healthcare organizations, and government agencies. These products are a collaboration software called ProdoPlan, an email encryption software called SEM, and Garnet River Survey, which is a mobile survey application for healthcare.

Our clients today range from small (but complex) businesses to very large organizations. We provide our services on a project, outsource or staff augmentation basis. It is not unusual for us to do everything we do - business consulting, project management, software development, and systems integration - for a client. Others hire us for one or two of these specialties.

Garnet River is a business, for sure, but we really see ourselves as a close knit community. There is a lot of harmony here and we have the freedom to do the work we want to do, for the clients that inspire us.

Garnet comes from the Greek word Granatum, which refers to the color of the pomegranate seed.

In the past, garnets were exchanged between friends to symbolize their affection, and to ensure that they meet again.

Garnets symbolize faith, fire, truth, courage, and fidelity. When worn, garnet is said to endow its owner with riches, good health, and joy.

Steve Richards has been a practicing attorney and business consultant for nearly 30 years. He has represented and/or advised over 250 businesses, government agencies and non-profit organizations. In recent years, his work has included business turnarounds, change management, business development, regulatory compliance and ediscovery.Steve holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Union College and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Virginia Law School.

Jo Ann Clute | PRESIDENT

Jo Ann Clute has been a practicing project manager and business analyst since 1977, consulting to numerous government agencies and a Fortune 500 company. A significant portion of her work has been in connection with large software projects. Jo Ann holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from the College of St. Rose and a Master of Science degree in Human Resource Management with a concentration in Organization Development from New School University, Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy, and is a certfied Project Management Professional (PMP) and a certified SCRUM Master (CSM).
