Server Consolidation at State EdFor the New York State Department of Education Garnet River designed and implemented a sever consolidation plan that included replacing aging systems with a new set of virtual machines. This system is responsible for running heavy load production and development Oracle systems. This new extensible virtual architecture using Sun’s Dynamic System Domains was built for scalability allowing growth year over year using Sun hardware. The upgrade moved their systems from a Sun E4000, E4500, E6500 and 2 V490’s to just one SunFire E25K reducing cost along with space and power requirements. Garnet River provided all of the services including the initial consulting, hardware requirements gathering and sales, the complete migration plan along with high level assistance during the migration and project management all with zero down time. When the project was completed the only thing the end users saw was that their systems were noticeably faster. The end result was a faster and easier to manage environment. |
