Garnet River was formerly named "IMG, LLC," which was an abbreviation for its full name, "Information Management Group." The Company was formed in 2000 and it is still privately owned and headquartered in Albany, New York.

In September 2008, we changed our name to Garnet River, as a recognition of the fact that our services included more than just "information management" and, quite frankly, we also wanted a more vivid, memorable name.

Garnet River is a business, for sure, but we really see ourselves as a close knit community of business analysts, computer scientists, engineers, project managers, software and web developers, and, yes, artists. There is a lot of harmony here, which we think leads to strong work product for our clients. What is also nice is the fact that we are not a publicly traded company and so we are not driven by short term financial results. We have a lot of freedom to do the work we want to do, for the clients that inspire us.

According to industry surveys, we are in the top twenty percent of our industry in terms of profitability. So, yes, we are still mindful of the fact that we are a business. But the work for our clients comes first and, as it turns out, the profits follow.

Our clients range from small (but complex) businesses to very large organizations. We provide our services to them on a project, outsource or staff augmentation basis. It is not unusual for us to do everything we do – business analysis, project management, software and web development and systems integration - for a client. Others hire us for one or two of these specialties.
